The Renaissance Woodworker

The author of this blog would classify himself as an intermediate woodworker. He got started in this wonderful craft when he bought his first house. Like many of us suddenly thrust into home ownership, there was a "honey do" list a mile long and he had to figure out how to build stuff. He was fortunate to have inherited a bunch of tools from his wife's grandfather who was a carpenter and home builder. He remembers not even knowing what he had in his garage workshop having never even seen a router or hand plane before. His high school had already succumbed to budget cuts and there was no woodshop or industrial arts program to introduce him to this craft. He wonders now what he might be doing today if he had been exposed early. The more he fiddled with his "new" tools and the more he watched shows like "The New Yankee Workshop" and "Woodworks", the more obsessed he became.

This passion had to be shared so this blog and podcast quickly resulted. Today there is not a day that goes by in his shop that he doesn't have a camera rolling or at least close at hand. Within these walls you will see him try many different things and maybe you can learn something along the way. He tries to work with hand tools as much as he can as he finds a much deeper connection to the wood and to the craftsmen who came before him. His goal is to turn his occasional commissions into something that might sustain him full time, but whatever he does he hopes to be able to augment it with this blog as he enjoys sharing my experiences so much.
